Bolotova lednik (ice house)

Bolotova lednick (ice house) from village Korolevskaya, Nyuksenitsa district.
Bolotova ice house is the building consisted of two parts: underground and overground. It’s for long-term preservation. A deep pit (2-2,5 m) underlies buildings of this type. A construction “napogrebnitsa” is above this pit depending on the type of applied constructive scheme.
In this case, “napogrebnitsa” has the most difficult construction – four-wall log construction under the roof with two sloping surfaces. In the plan sizes are 4,33 х 4,31 m in logs’ axes. Outwardly the ice house overground part of this type looks like the simplest barn for stuff, but with a greater height of log’s construction. Overall roof with big details (potoki, kuritsi) is the feature of this ice house. The other feature is a ridge roof.
The significant part of the ice house is a pit. There is the consolidation by supporting walls of boards in this pit. Besides there is planking which is moved away easily. Round this pit, between it and log construction, the planking is on the soil. Produce of everyday use are kept here.  Long-term preservation is in the pit.
